I Want To Mount My 42 Inch Flat Tv On My Brick Fireplace. Do I Go In The Grout Or The Brick.?

Since the fireplace is normally the focal point of any room, you’re interest in your choice of placement for your flat-screen tv is a grand one, as well as quite popular and done by many!
As for drilling into the grout specifically, this does not matter. Using cement anchors is, of course, the key here. So in centering your tv, it will call for drilling into either the grout OR brick itself (again depending on location of centering).

Before choosing this desired location (above the fireplace), it is, however, a good rule of thumb to tape a thermometer to the wall above the fireplace, then build a fire and let it roar. If the mantel doesn’t get above 90 degrees or collect soot you’re probably ok.
You might also want to consider a tilt-mount (which is not uncommon) so as to reduce neck strain.
Hope it all works out. Enjoy your tv viewing Mike!
